Joyce was born at home in Moline, IL, on April 27, 1929, to Herbert and Ethelyne Paxton Weber. She attended and graduated from Erie High School with honors. She began working in the health care field in the office of Leonora Nash in Erie when she was 16. She graduated from Moline Lutheran Hospital in 1950. She worked in the Cook County Hospital and the Redwood City Hospital in California. In Redwood City she worked in a preemie neo-natal unit. The main part of her career was spent working as an office nurse for Dr. Leonora Nash in Moline. She retired in 1990. After retirement she worked for Trinity Visiting Nurses.

Joyce married Ronald Schoening on February 6, 1955. They spent many years farming in Rural Orion and raising their daughter Carol Ann. Joyce and Ronald had 24 happy years together. Joyce enjoyed being a second mom to Kenny, Penny, Lester, and Julie. She enjoyed spending time with Cali, Mandy, Cynthia, Matt, Eric, Kristen, Robert, James, Jim and Gerri Schinkle and their family, and many others. Joyce wanted to be involved with all the kids, rather called Joyce, Aunt Joyce, or A.J.

She enjoyed traveling with her dear friend, Dorothy, and Mary Anne.

She was an active member of Beulah Church. Some of her activities included: Building Committee, Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, Mariners, Circle, Daughters of the American Revolution, Ice Cream Social at church, and Women’s Conference for Presbytery.

Extension and 4-H were her true love. She was a 4-H Leader for Rural True Blues for close to 50 years. She was inducted to the Leaders Hall of Fame in 2010. She served on the Youth Council and County Extension Board. She was the County Extension Treasurer for 18 years.

She enjoyed nurse’s luncheons, Extension Outings, Circa, traveling, and time with family.
