Obituary

Catherine Elaine Dinneen passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her family on Aug. 5th, 2022, in Sioux Falls, SD. Catherine was born at Fort Bragg, NC, on November 26th, 1955. She was the daughter of Charles I. Mitchell and Mary (Doeckel) May.  

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2502 29th Ave, Rock Island, IL 61201.  Visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Ave Moline, IL 61265. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice in Catherine’s name.

Cat, as she was best known, was raised in Moline, IL. She graduated from Moline High School in 1973. Following her graduation from Moline High School, she received her beautician license in 1976 from Moline Beauty School as a highly awarded beautician. Cat continued her education at Black Hawk Jr. College where she achieved her Associate Arts Degree in 1995 majoring in education.

Cat married David W. Dinneen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rock Island, IL, on September 4th, 1976. Cat was a proud and loving mom to her two children Timothy W. Dinneen and Mary A. Dinneen. She was most passionate about her role as a loving wife, mother and grandmother to Grace and Mason.

Cat loved camping and the outdoors in her youth along with traveling or taking cruises with her family. Catherine loved music, enjoyed singing, planting flowers as well as being a talented artist. She was an exceptional cook and always showed her love through the meals she provided to friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a mesmerizing smile and enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Cat was raised to understand the importance of family and faith. Cat grew to have a personal and spiritual relationship with the Lord and was always there for anyone in need.

Catherine is survived by her husband Dave Dinneen of Sioux Falls, SD. Her children Tim Dinneen of Rock Island, IL, and Mary Dinneen of Sioux Falls, SD. Her aunt Joan Doeckel-Lehan of Rock Island, IL. Her siblings Doris (Mitch) Fincher of Ocala, FL, Margo Machmer of Moline, IL, and stepbrother Tom May of Port Byron, IL. As well as her two grandchildren Grace and Mason Dinneen. 

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother Dennis Mitchell, brother-in-law Dave Machmer and step-father Floyd R. May.
