Charles Coleman

June 15, 1927 — May 8, 2019

Charles Sherman Coleman, 91 years young, of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities – Attn: Margie Hansen, 4130 Northwest Blvd.; Davenport, Iowa  52806

Charles was born on June 15, 1927, in Prentiss, Kentucky, the son of Birchell and Nina (Stevens) Coleman.  He married Daisy Ferguson on December 23, 1950, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2008.  Charles was a U. S. Army Air Forces Veteran.  He retired in the early 1980’s as a Heavy Equipment Operator and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150.  Charles was a lifelong fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.  He was a former resident of Park Vista where he enjoyed spending time with his friends, dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include his children, Nancy (Wayne) Fountain, Madison, WI, Patty (Tim) Taylor, Monroe, MI, and Katie (Kevin) Thornborough, East Moline; grandchildren, Kevin (Tracie) Fountain, Scott Fountain, Bethany (John) White, Charity Taylor, Harmony Taylor, Kolton (Ruby Grigsby) Thornborough, and Kyler Thornborough; great grandchildren, Naomi and Milo Fountain, Noah White, Ja’von White, John White III., Hudson Crots and Leauna Grigsby; sister, Betty Taylor; and a special friend, Sue Fox.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene, Jewel, Wendell, Virginia, and Margie.

He was a kind man with a strong Baptist faith and will be dearly missed.
