Dorothy A Gottwalt

Dorothy A. Gottwalt, 89, of Carbon Cliff, IL, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.  Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Dorothy was born on January 20, 1932, in Moline, the daughter of James Winfield and Mabel Etta (Whitmore) Coryell.  She married Leo Max on February 11, 1950, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline.  He preceded her on April 19, 2006.  While her kids were young, she sold Avon for many years. She worked as a meter reader.  She served on Carbon Cliff school board as well as an election judge for the village in Rock Island County.  She was the Carbon Cliff-Barstow P.T.A. Vice President.  Dorothy worked as a municipal clerk for the Village of Carbon Cliff for 12 years.  Dorothy loved the holidays and cooking with Leo for the whole family.  Dorothy and Leo loved to go out dancing with their friends.  Dancing is what always brought a smile to Dorothy’s face.

Survivors include her children, Denny (Mary) Gottwalt, Hampton, Terri (Mark) Clark, Silvis, and Keith (Tami) Gottwalt, Silvis; grandchildren, Derek (Heather) Gottwalt, Cary (Bryce) Breiby, Chris (Melissa) Gottwalt, Nick (Tara) Gottwalt, Elisa (Kevin) Wax, Michael (Jessica) Clark, and Daniel (Alexis) Clark; 11 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Coryell, Silvis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Robert Coryell and Kenneth Coryell, sister-in-law, Jean Coryell.
