Robert H. Murdock, 93, of Coal Valley, passed away Monday, May 4, 2020, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 22, 2021, at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.  Anyone wishing to attend should meet at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, at 1:45 p.m., Monday for procession to the cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 246.  Memorials may be made to the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation at USNAF Gift Processing, 274 Wood Road, Annapolis, MD 21402.

Bob was born on October 1, 1926, in Malvern, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Esther (Stillinger) Murdock.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1950 and later that year on June 8, he married Bertha L. “Lorry” Dry.  He previously worked as an engineer and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1979.  Bob enjoyed spending his time restoring old cars and working as an amateur carpenter in his garage.  He also liked to go metal and coin detecting.  Above all, he cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lorry; children, Jeff (Sandy) Murdock, Tomball, TX and Cynthia Ann (Donald) Martin, Shelbyville, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Donald) Searing, Van Alstyne, Texas, Samuel (Krissy) Murdock, Cypress, TX, and Chris Murdock, St. Louis, MO; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Randall, Richard, Carolyn, David “Roger”, and Alice.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Heartland Health Care Center and Heartland Hospice for their special care and kindness, and Margaret Morrisey and Terri McCombs for their home care.
