Sandra Annette Atwell

October 16, 1968 — May 11, 2023

Orion

On October 16th, 1968, Sandra Annette Atwell was brought into our world at Moline's Public Hospital, the daughter of Richard A. and Rosa (Bofarull) Atwell. She graduated from Orion High School in 1987, and she enjoyed playing volleyball and softball while attending school there.

On May 11th, 2023, Sandra was called home to Heaven to be with her pet Ootie, and her grandparents, and others who had passed before her. She was surrounded by family, and encompassed in love as she made the transition from our world and into the next great journey.

Celebration of Life will be from 5-9 p.m., Friday June 23, 2023, at The Rock, Coal Valley. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., in Orion, is assisting the family.

Later in life, she would welcome two daughters of her own; Alexis Dillan Atwell on April 27th 1993, and Skylar Leigh Atwell on February 20th, 1998. As a family, they loved animals, and treated their very special dog Ootie like another child or sister.

She was previously employed as an artist at Isabel Bloom and later at J & B Meats in Coal Valley and Lynco in Milan. Sandra enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays and tending to her flowers and crafting. Her catholic faith was important to her. She fought a courageous battle against cancer until the very end.

Those left to cherish her memory include (but is not limited to,) her parents Rosa and Richard Atwell of Orion, IL, her daughters Alexis Atwell of Moline, IL and Skylar Atwell of Champaign-Urbana, IL, her siblings Kenneth Atwell (Mary Ann) of East Moline, IL, Laura Plumley (Duane) of Geneseo, IL, Janet Brassfield-Masiker of Geneseo, IL, her nieces, Bridget Johnson (John) of Geneseo, IL, Kelsey Masiker of Geneseo, IL, Rose Atwell of East Moline, IL, Jessica Denner of Germany; nephew, Kenneth A. Atwell of Germany; the love of her life Todd Heymann of Orion, IL, uncle Jordi Bofarull of Spain; and many, many, many more family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Anyone who was fortunate enough to have met Sandy would know that she was the embodiment of life, and of love, and of fun. She was also a strong and resilient woman, charismatic and kind. Above all, she was genuine. She cared fiercely for others, and was loved wholly in return. She was a loving and generous person who enjoyed gift giving. She will be missed entirely.

Memorials may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research, Q.C. Paws, or Animal Aid Humane Society.

Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
